fringe scissors flowers

Hi all, Ive been playing with my fringing scissors from Martha Stuart (see some more ideas here ) and thought I'd show you these flowers I've made. The first experiment was with recycled paper I got between a new dinner set using a large pearl for the center, they were nice for a box or something 3D but I wanted something that sat a little flatter for card making so I made some white ones with button centers and they worked great. Craft Critique has a great product review of these scissors here

These were made in the same way as the heart wreath I made for Valentines day. see all my details in both my videos below on how i made these flowers.

I was really disappointed to get and email from someone telling me the things I have on my blog should be free and I should give freely of my talents I quickly let them know that they should have a look through the rest of my blog as I have so many free tutorials, patterns and videos and give very freely of my time and effort in showing and sharing with the world what I know. I know God has given me a gift in this area and I also know that God would not want our family without their bills paid or no food on the table and if He has given me a talent to be able to supply this them I thank Him daily. I thank all those from the bottom of my heart who have purchased patterns from me, since my husband was redundant my income from my blog has helped to keep us going. So before you judge please browse the rest of my blog I have so many ideas for your personal use.
Blessings to you

and a last thought

to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus”

I have learned that you can't please everyone. I have purchased your tutorials and they are wonderful and worth every penny! The fact that you do free tutorials is just icing on the cake! I love your blog!

OMG ... your videos are all fantastic. I appreciate the time it takes you to do these and that share them with everyone at no cost! Everyone must make a living and this is your way. Again, thank you for sharing all of your lovely talent!

Thank you for sharing your talent with us. Your work is an inspiration and you never cease to amaze. There will always be people who take, take, take and never give. They are just mean-spirited and greedy and hardly worth the time it takes to reply to their e-mail. Just keep being yourself because you are a loving, caring, generous, kind person. Bless you and your God given talent.

Valita I'm so sorry that anyone would tell you this! Anyone who visits your blog often knows how generous you are sharing your knowledge and talent with us.
Your card is just so pretty and your flowers turned out awesome! I love the cording wrapped around the card.

Valita, you have every right to sell your designs. That person is just nuts to send you such an email. I
first saw your ideas many years ago when I learned Iris folding and the best designs on that community came from you. I was delighted that I found your blog. Because of my own personal problems, I didn't bloghop for over a year and recently ran across your lattice work on Youtube.
so absolutely wonderful Thank you for all you give us.

I can not believe that someone would write something like that to you.
You are so talented and so generous with your project and technique..
I can understand how that would upset you..
I myself appreciated the free project you share with us..
So true about looking before writing something negative...
Thank you so much for everything you do.
This flower with those scissors are awful nice, I have them and I will give this a try!

We love you and God bless you and your talent. For those who want free stuff, I am sure they would next expect you to make it for them too. I am so pleased that you are able to share on the world wide web, if not, I would still be sitting here in the US on my very first project thinking "hmmmm what do I do?"

Valita,
I am so stunned that anyone would be so selfish and greedy to want everything for nothing. I wonder if they realize the time and effort it takes to film and post tutorials. It's a shame and Shame on them. I enjoy all your tutorials. I appreciate the ones you have at no cost and am happy with trying the techniques you share. When I get a bit more money, I plan on purchasing the others. I am still in shock that someone couldn't be happy with the talent you did share at no cost. I am appalled at such behavior, as to even write you and state such greed.
Just know that you do share and it is appreciated and that I am not ashamed to 'glean' the ones you do post.
Thanks for being a great teacher and the love you have for your craft shows!! There are quite a few of us who do appreciate all you share.
Thanks for sharing and may the Lord Bless you and your family.

Valita, please don't let the things some cruel and jealous person says upset you. You are an incredible artist, and people all over the world who don't even know you personally love you. You are generous with your talent, and every tutorial I've purchased has been fantastic and worth every penny. Holly M.

I enjoy your blog and your tutorials so very much. I just have to wonder if the person who said you should give everything freely would be willing to go out and work in a store all day long then refuse to be paid! Your talent is your way of making your living and I know that you spend a great deal of time coming up with your wonderful ideas. Please don't let one hateful comment get you down, you bring so much pleasure to all of us.

Krista Pomeroy said...

Tho I have never bought a tutorial from you, I would never think you should give them away fro free. Of course I know that some are free and I think everyone appreciates that.
I am not sure people realize how much work goes into writing a tutorial. I wrote up instructions for 6 different cards for a class and it seemed like it took me forever.
Keep up the awesome work and don't let the few who want everything for free get to you.
Gold bless you, your work and your family.

Hi Valita, I love your projects and it is my choice to purchase them as well as using your freebies which I appreciate very much. There is a lot of people out there selling their templates and it is a legitimate business and I bet you work hard at it, the only difference is you work at home. I also have had the fringe scissors for ages and am so glad of your flower video

Valita, pay no attention to the people that send you "junk" mail. They have no since and are jealous of your talents. If they could do a quarter of what you do they would sell everything. Some people just want everything for nothing. I work in groceries and you should see how greedy they are, taking things and eating them before they get out the door so they don't pay for them. It is a shame that this world has come to such greed. You are a wonderful giving person and you should not have to put up with those ignorant people, so pay no attention to them, that's what they want ATTENTION.So Sad!
Love your work and look forward to all your blogs, God Bless you. Mary L.

Valita,
You give away more of your ideas than sell and I thank you for sharing. You don't need to explain yourself to anyone, those who truly know you and your blog know better. I love you and your blog.

You are truly talented and give so much more than you charge for. Please don't let this one selfish person spoil it for you. We all love you and are so appreciative of your time and talent.

Valita,
I don't understand how someone could say that to you. You give all of us so much. Your videos and the things you figure out and share with us is amazing. Don't give what that person said a second thought. Thank you for sharing the talents that God has gifted you with. Thanks so much and God Bless!!

Valita,
I was amazed at the comment that you got. Most, if not all, your things are shown on a video and if the "lovely" lady could be bothered she could follow all of these for free. I find your blog absolutely wonderful and have made several of the projects. Thankyou for all that you give and share throughout the world. God bless Louise xx (in England)

Valita, thank you so much for your talent that God has given you. From very early in my card making days with Iris Folding you have so generously designed and shared patterns with everyone. I think the time it takes to do tutorials should be rewarded and it is your job, not just a hobby. You do such profesional work and really it is so inexpensive to buy your patterns. God Bless. Andrea

So sorry you received the email from an ungrateful viewer. I love your blog and think you are more than generous with your free instructions. I have learned sooooooo much from you and look forward to your every post. Please don't take it to heart, just consider the source. Boo to whomever it was!

Susan said...

Dear Valita I can't believe someone would actually say that you do not share your talents with the world for free. I am so delighted everytime I stop by your blog just to see what you've created. You are so talented. I don't stop by to pick up free instructions or printouts, but to learn and experience art done by other crafters. You sounded so upset, and I don't blame you one bit. Please, please know that there are plenty of us that appreciate your time, effort, talent and willingness to show these beautiful creations. I know what it is to live on hardly anything and if I felt I had a worthy talent I would sell my works also just to make ends meet. I can't put into words how appreciative I am that you share your ideas, thoughts, projects and hints with the world. For the world is a much better place with you and your family here. Blessings always. Susan

There is a song lyric that says ...people throw rocks at things that shine...
I have paid a lot of money for classes at stores that have not instructed or inspired me as much as your videos.
I hope you become a millionaire. Thousands with far less creative and original ideas have.
Good luck to you and keep doing what your heart tells you is the right.
Thank you for all that you do.

Hello Valita!

You share so much of your talented creations with your wonderful videos and free tutorials - I love your blog! Pay no attention to that e-mail - that is very arrogant of someone to tell you what you should do as it is your personal decision whether to sell somthing or give it away! Did this person leave a name and a link to a blog so you could see what they are about? Always there is someone who is a stranger to you but yet will judge - life is so short I have a difficult time understanding this type of behavior. Keep on doing what you are doing and live your life as you see fit! If someone doesn't agree with you, that is their problem.

That said, this new word verification is so difficult for me to read because of poor eyesight, would you consider turning it off as you can still do this manually? I have to try 3-4 times to get a comment sent! :<) Wishing you a happy weekend!

Hugs,

Barbara Diane

Thank you for sharing these wonderful videos with us and love the card you show as well....these flowers are great and look easy enough. I want to add my comments to the very rude person who has made you feel badly about what you do....we regular subscribers to your blog know how much you do and share with us on a regular basis...and that you probably share more free items than the ones you request payment for. My guess is that this person has done the same thing to other bloggers so we need to band together to protect each of you! Try to let this pass and not fret over it...it isn't worth your emotional distress and worry....WE know how wonderfully creative and sharing you are - please keep up the fabulous work you do!

If I forgot to say in my first comment, THANK YOU for both of the videos...fabulous as always...and free!!!

it is so sad that there are some people in this world that think everything should be free to them.. this is a God given gift that you have, a talent of designing a pattern and use of tools. we buy patterns to make clothes, we buy tools to create..and you as a designer has the right to do the same!!!!
You do NOT have to explain anything .... there are many many blogs that sell their creations, which is everyone right...sorry I'm getting upset..first Stampin up wanted to control your talent and now someone else wants your talent for free...really?? I luv your creativity and enjoy your blog....I hope you don't stop...and I'm glad comments have to have your approval first..I say delete the ugly ones!!!

Keep up the awesome work. God Bless. xxx

Please don't let someone's comments hurt your feelings. I have watched some of your free tutorials and although I don't read your blog religiously, I do read it at least weekly and enjoy it greatly. I admire your talent greatly and would be glad to pay for your tutorials if it was one that I wanted to use - I don't have a lot of talent on this stuff and only make stuff occasionally, so I appreciate a talented mind!

Valita, just adding my thanks for all you give so generously on your blog. Your ideas are so creative and fresh and inspiring. I have purchased 2 of your patterns as well and found them to be worth every penny. I know it's very hard to ignore mean-spirited comments but that's what you should try to do. As you can see from the many lovely comments above, the vast majority of your readers absolutely love what you do and the way you have organized your "business". No need to change a thing!

Dear Valita, I don't understand people at all. God gave you a talent, and when you use it to help defray cost by selling some of your patterns you should be able to do so. I am so sorry there are those out in cyber land who would put you down for this. You certainly give freely of your time and talent and I for one appreciate all your efforts. Please don't stop but if you do I certainly would understand. Take care and have a wonderful week.

Dear Valita, as always your video is stellar. Anyone who has followed your blog has to know that your generosity in sharing your talent and creativity is boundless. I'm sorry that there are those who think otherwise. We who follow your every blog post are so appreciative of your talent, your ability to communicate your ideas to those of us not quite so sharp, and your giving spirit. Whether it is a free pattern or a purchased one, I have loved each and every single project I've made and think of you whenever I make one of your creations. hugs to you, eileen

Valita, I love your stuff and although I have only purchased one tutorial from you - It is to use in a class for my own girls - I pass on your blog to every crafter I come across and tell them to buy your tutorials as they are o straight forward and day to follow. I do NOT give your tutorials away at my classes - I tell my girls they can buy their own 'licensed' copy of your instructions!
To suggest that you should be giving you tutorials away for free is ludicrous - will that persons be asking the electricity board to give away the electricity or the baker to give her free bread or the police to save her back side without being paid? I don't think so! Keep up your good work - I love what you do!
